Every year, 9-1-1 telecommunicators answer over 240 million calls for help. Local 9-1-1 services meet the needs of Congressional constituents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as they have for more than 40 years. The 9-1-1 system is in a critical transitional stage as it moves from the telephone world to a fully IP-based Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) system capable of handling all forms of communications. It is more important than ever that elected leaders understand the critical work done every day by our nation’s 9-1-1 system and also its limitations and the need for a national effort to upgrade the system. There is no better way to learn about the importance of 9-1-1 and the challenges that must be addressed than seeing a local 9-1-1 center in action.
The NG9-1-1 Institute invites all elected officials to learn more about the daily challenges and amazing successes of local 9-1-1 systems by scheduling a tour of a 9-1-1 call center in your home district.
The NG9-1-1 Institute, working with the appropriate State 9-1-1 Administrator, will provide support in scheduling a tour.
